I believe every patient should have the same opportunity as one another to live a happy and health life, physically and mentally.
My name is Kathryn Vetrano, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) with advanced training and certification as a Dialectical Behavioral Therapist (DBT). I am a member of the DBT consultation team at Northwell Health, formally trained as a DBT, and I offer sessions that are based on the dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) structure. I am a part of multiple continuing education programs focusing in the areas of trauma, women’s studies, and the effects that invalidation has on individuals.
As a formally trained DBT therapist, we'll work together on negative behaviors and emotions while replacing them with healthy and productive coping skills.
When I was a teenager, I experienced intense emotional dysregulation, anxiety, and depression. I was confused as to what was happening within me and why I could not control my emotions. Due to this, I went to multiple therapists and just felt as though I did not connect because they did not share my same struggles. I vowed then to be a psychotherapist myself and help those who are confused, lost, down, and second-guessing their feelings. This is what lead me to becoming a therapist.
Growing up, there were factors that definitely played a part in my own anxiety, including hormones and the typical issues biologically female individuals experience. I specialize in therapy for women and adolescents because these are the populations I am passionate about due to my own experiences.
